‘Overcast’

‘Overcast’ was a live drawing event staged over five days as part of the 3rd Oceanic Performance Biennial at Te Uru Gallery in Auckland. The theme of the biennial adressed global warming and carbon emissions. The drawing ‘Overcast’ was made using bio-char (charcoal), one of the soil amendment tools in the Permacultualist’s toolkit. Fortuitously, it is also a stable form of carbon that is being investigated for its carbon sequestering capabilities. Using simple stenciled shapes the drawing accumulated over 5 days while the artist engaged the public in discussions about carbon capture and fossil carbon.
